Fresh Out is a painting with dual foci, both of which have been very important to me as a new artist in 2020. This work is first about being fresh out of energy for things that are not sustaining you. This painting is about reaching your limits while at the same time stepping onto a new scene, expanding your perspectives and goals. Fresh Out focuses on the moment that you realize that in order to become the person you were called to be, you must make a shift. This change is welcome, positive, and energetic, as are the irregular shapes in this painting. The shapes have soft rather than sharp edges, suggesting the ability to recover from life’s ever-changing circumstances, both within ourselves and outside of ourselves. There is much frenetic energy in the air with this work, portraying new beginnings as something to be celebrated and not feared.

Fresh Out uses nature’s earth tones to highlight the importance of listening to your raw emotions and needs as a human being. The lightness and brightness of these tones is a reminder to stay light-hearted, even when you are fresh out (of energy or onto the scene). The larger sandstone colored forms contrast white delicate marks, representing the heavy and delicate emotions that come with making change. Fresh out onto the scene, where are you headed?
